Mythology and art

The exhibition showcases narratives that reveal the best practice, knowledge and understanding of many legends and the lessons learnt from them

Our main focus is to create and promote art with a concept, which is highly innovative and thought provoking, which challenges and redefines the meaning and association of the history of art/science/philosophy/music and literature,” says Jeff Ross, Director, ArtVantage. “We believe that all arts are highly interactive and interrelated, there is inter-textuality everywhere, there is correspondence in everything, and without this no art lives for a moment to tease us out of thought.”

UK-based ‘ArtVantage’ plans to foster eclectic art and culture in Europe / India / UK through a series of exhibitions and workshops.

Its show, “Change Return Success”, slated to open at London this November will commemorate the fortieth anniversary of British rock-music band Pink Floyd’s debut album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn through an art exhibition showcasing artworks of Indian artist, Samij Datta; the paintings will attempt to recreate the mood of the swinging Sixties, its lifestyle, ethos and philosophy in correspondence with songs from early Pink Floyd.

Says Joy Roy Choudhury, Creative Consultant: “Datta’s surreal and modern abstract art will include “By the Waters of Ganges”, which subtly echoes the spiritual symbolism of friendship in Pink Floyd’s classic song “Wish You Were Here”. His paintings have already raised a lot of interest among Floyd zealots and other cultural aficionados in Europe.”

ArtVantage’s future projects would be based on works of Shakespeare, John Donne, James Joyce, T.S. Eliot, Mick Jagger, etc., and held in London , Paris, Rome, Bangalore and Calcutta. In the meanwhile, an exhibition on world mythology has been put together by ArtVantage alongside the first Indian Assessment Tomorrow conference being held in Bangalore.

The exhibition titled “Myths and Understanding” will try to showcase narratives that expose the knowledge and understanding of many myths and the lessons learnt from them. “The focus of the exhibition will be to share knowledge, to discuss, and classify problems to characterize the alluring qualities of all myths,” says Ross. Along with world mythology exhibits, there will be a separate sub-section featuring paintings on corporate myths featuring Henry Ford and Levi-Strauss.

The two-day show will be on at Taj Residency on October 11-12. For details, visit http://www.bangalore.assessment tomorrow.com/html/artvantage. html
