Business at leisure

Of a new luxury hotel, on Old Mahabalipuram Road, that targets high-end-business clientele

It’s for the M.I.C.E.

Asiana, the new luxury hotel in Semmancherry, caters to the meetings, incentives, conference/congress and events (M.I.C.E) segment of high-end business companies.

Strategically placed in Old Mahabalipuram Road, the hub of the IT corridor, the hotel’s USP is its 28,750 square feet of meeting and banquet space for groups of up to 2,500 people.

Asiana Hotels Private Limited has been promoted by Shri Sriharan, a career hotelier with the Four Seasons chain of hotels, and his friends and associates from the tourism and hospitality industry.

Info savy

Each of the hotel’s 114 rooms has IP phones to access the stock market, weather, airline information and such with a touch on the screen. Free internet access and Wi-Fi access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel has a lounge on each floor, with two computers each.

The interiors are austere, done in shades of creams, browns, blacks, deep orange and light asparagus.

And furniture is minimal.

On the empty, polished corridor that connects its restaurants, don’t be surprised to find M. Shamsad Ali Khan playing his sitar accompanied by a tabla player. He elaborates the Hindustani ragas and on a whim, switches to old Hindi-film numbers like “Ei mere zohre jabi”. Straight-backed chairs dominate its coffee shop Caramel, Thai and speciality South Indian restaurant Silk, international grill restaurant Wild Fire and even its candle-lit Atrium.

To slouch, head to the I-Lounge, the lounge bar, and sink into deep sofas. Snatch moments from the hectic schedules and head to the Atrium or, in the nights, the terrace pool.

The high-ceilinged Atrium can appeal to the romantics short on time.

A fountain flows over a floor-high dark-granite slab, and the few tables are lit by flickering candles in brown glasses.

City watch

At the tables by the pool, underneath umbrellas fluttering in the breeze, you can watch the city lights.

The tired can walk into the Prana spa and salon.

In this Thai-concept spa, you can get facial and body treatments and massages. There is also a fitness centre and a pastry counter in the hotel.
