Art show
Earthy brushes, loud tones and figure strokes. The group art exhibition at Welcom Art Gallery in association with Kahawa Gallery for Design is a varied collection of the works of young upcoming artists who move from the traditional to the contemporary with their work.
Chandaa Narang’s works – “Full Moon and Wolves” and other paintings are an eye-catcher – experimenting with both grounded and bright hues with deep figures. Usha Mishra, Raghu Wodeyar and Raghu Kondur are definitely talented artists you should look out for who also used refined colours, and a very contemporary setting. Raghu Wodeyar’s “The Edge” – saw rich brown muddy hues on a boat. The colours used by Tapas Gangopadhyay in several mixed media on board all seem alike, with a slight difference here and there. The deep brown “Measurement” by Madhu D. was innovative, neat and clear-cut. Suresh Pushpangathan’s “Lily Pond” was a break away from the rest – fresh, romantic and fairylike with purple shades. Poornima’s untitled work and “Sacred Plant” were gifted pieces and the result of sustained work. Ramamurthy was abstract but yet had plenty of form and depth and saw a flurry of colours in the acrylic. Ajay Gulati’s almost real-like “Asothama Sathgamaya” was in dreamy-green and experimented acrylic sculpture on canvas. The cost of the paintings range from Rs.10, 000 to Rs.7,50,000 and the ceramic sculptures by Hamsavardhan between Rs.15,000 and Rs.24,000. The exhibition is on till October 14 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the Welcom Art Gallery, ITC Windsor, Windsor Square, 25 Golf Course Road. Call 22269898.
