Her relatives are as unfamiliar with death metal as she is, so they were quite confounded while watching my band Blood Covenant on S.S. Music.
She gets a long distance call from a relative, “We are in front of the television for one hour watching the concert. But we don’t know what he is up to.” Another call: “We can only see Eddie’s cap.” Because I was head-banging.
During the concert, rhythm guitarist Tim Eliot body-slammed, literally jumping into the audience. A relative calls, “Just imagine what would have happened to the audience if Eddie had dived instead of the guitarist.” And I overhear Nalini whisper into the receiver, “They would be pulp, I guess!”

When it comes to death metal, I am an ignoramus. So, his voice came as a rude shock (death metal relies on ‘growled vocals’). He was growling and grunting more than singing. He had kept me in ignorance of his band. I would probably still be in the dark if I had not been to the Unwind Center on a day when he was unexpectedly whisked on to the stage for a guest performance. When I read the lyrics, I was surprised to learn that it was a Christian band. Just like him, his band remains an enigma to me.
