Calling for nominations from visually-impaired women
|
Nandini Voice for the Deprived, a Chennai-based NGO, invites applications from visually-impaired women in Tamil Nadu for awards in connection with the forthcoming World Disabled Day in the month of December 2007.
More than 90 per cent of visually-impaired women belong to the lower income group. With visual impairment on the one hand, and economic distress on the other, these women need support from society and government. Many of them have shown extraordinary qualities of initiative and determination to overcome various hurdles.
The NGO proposes to identify and honour such women with awards. The women will be selected for the cash award on the basis of their overall attitude to life, efforts made to overcome difficulties and their achievement in their area of activity.
Ten cash awards will be given. There is no age limit or economic and educational criteria for eligibility. NGOs, institutions and individuals are also invited to recommend visually-impaired women for the awards. The last date for the receipt of the application is November 15, 2007.
