Celebrating the beauty of temple saris

Yards of splendour One of the temple saris on display
The traditional temple sari is back in focus at an exhibition that commences today at Usha’s. Saris with beautiful temple borders and pallus which were in vogue at a time when craftsmanship was celebrated have once again caught the attention of
the fashion cognoscenti.
The exhibition showcases a line of temple saris in silk, cotton with silk border, pure cotton and poly cotton. It is a tribute to the wearers, who sweat it out in dingy rooms to keep alive the difficult tradition of korvai-weaving. The colours include traditional araku, beautiful blues, pretty greens and understated mustard. Each sari comes with a stylishly designed choli with intricate embroidery. The range starts at Rs. 1,000 for cotton and Rs. 3, 600 for silk.
Also on show at the exhibition, coinciding with Navratri, are silk cotton printed saris with touches of zari and saris with embroidery and appliqué. During the season, a 10 per cent discount will be offered on purchase of saris at the boutique at 16, 3rd Street, Dr. Thirumurthi Nagar, Nungambakkam.
On October 18 and 19, Usha’s will showcase a line of coral jewellery from Mumbai. The range includes neck pieces, ear rings and bangles studded with corals.
