The spotlight is back on Adnan Sami. This time for his slimmer look and new role as a television host.

Brand new Adnan Sami is set to host a musical game show on Star One
Whoever said life doesn’t give you a second chance can, well, eat his words. As, not often though, it not only gives you another chance but a good one too. Adnan Sami will vouch for every bit of it.
Lighter by 130 kgs, back with his wife Safa Galadhari, and a steady yet rising musical career, Adnan confesses he never had it better. “Touch wood! I am really grateful to God for giving me another lease of life. It’s unfortunate but we often don’t value what we have in life. Only when it is gone do we realise its importance,” says the much-philosophised musician.
His slimmer avatar garners as many compliments these days as his music. “You know, I never thought I would ever be called handsome and get flattering remarks for my look. It’s all so new but I like it,” he quips.
But this time around, it is neither his music nor his looks that bring him under the spotlight. Instead, it is his latest incarnation as a television host that’s taking all the attention. ‘Bol Baby Bol,’ a musical game show, on Star One, will see the singer-composer take centre stage. “I didn’t want to be a part of a reality show, as there’s one on every channel. But when Star approached me with this concept, I found it very interesting and unique, as it was based on lyrics. People participating in ‘Bol Baby Bol’ needn’t have any special talent. They just need to have a good memory and know the lyrics of their favourite songs by heart to win up to Rs.25 lakhs,” says Adnan, who was last seen as a judge on Channel V’s Super Singer.
Enjoying the moment
Not without any apprehensions though, but Adnan is thoroughly enjoying shooting for the show. His Bollywood career as a film music director took off well with ‘Lucky – No time for Love’ and ‘Mumbai Salsa’ is his latest offering.
“It has a very different subject. The music too represents the theme of city life. I have tried to bring in elements of real life into it,” explains Adnan, who also gave music for the Sanjay Dutt-starrer ‘Dhamaal.’
The ‘Lift Karade’ man’s latest album, ‘Kisi Din,’ is still doing round. And he agrees the shift from albums to films wasn’t easy, as independent albums allow one to make his kind of music but for films there are too many parameters to cater to.
“I had a feeling that I would be limited in films. But to my surprise, it has opened new avenues for my creativity. I am able to get into genres that I couldn’t do in my albums,” citing the example of his forthcoming film, Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920,’ a supernatural thriller. “I have got Pandit Jasraj and Parveen Sultana to do R&B numbers in it. It’s great, isn’t it?
This London-bred Pakistani has well made India his second home, so much that he has got amalgamated into its culture. “I keep telling people; Mumbai was the missing link in my life. I feel complete now. Ashaji once told me, ‘Tum jahan bhi paida huye ho, tumhari rooh to India ki hai’. I believe she was so true.”
