Film screening
As part of its monthly programme, the Cochin Film Society is screening two films on October 17 at the Cochin Media School. AFPSA 1958 and ‘Everything for sale’. AFPSA 1958, in English, directed by Haobam Paban Kumar, draws on the Armed Fo
rces Special Powers Act which was imposed on some states in the North East. The protest against the Act by the women in Manipur after the killing of Manorama Deviforms the background of the film. The film won the jury award at the Mumbai International Film festival, the film has been screened at various international film festivals. The second film to be screened will be ‘Everything for Sale’ directed by Polish director Andrzej Wajda. The intensely personal film is the director’s tribute to Polish actor Zbigniew Cybulski, there is a playful quality to the film where the line between fiction and reality is blurred. Most of the cast members appear in the film as themselves. AFPSA 1958 will be screened at 6.00 p.m. and ‘Everything for sale’ at 7.15 p.m.
