Network18 brings the shop to your living room

How about shopping from your couch? With the retail sector going through a boom, now
Network18 is coming up with a 24-hour channel dedicated to home shopping. Called HomeShop18, the channel is an attempt by the group to consolidate its presence in the virtual retail space.
The group already has a website and catalogue dedicated to home shopping.
New platform
Sundeep Malhotra, CEO, HomeShop18 says, “It’s a completely new distribution platform for retail. The malls have reached 30-35 cities, but there is a customer waiting to be tapped in other cities as well. HomeShop with footprint in 2000 cities across the country would be able to cater to this demand.”
He says they are not going to sell some “magic products” and weight loss gizmos, etc.
“We have around 1700 products and services from camera and jewellery to insurance. For instance, if you want to deliver a gift this Diwali to friends in 10 different cities, we can do it,” he adds.
As for the touch and feel factor and issues of trust and credibility, he says they have kept all this in mind.
Sundeep feels when you are selling products that are available on the shop next door, the proposition has to be lucrative. He says it’s a win-win situation for the companies as well, as without much effort they will get a huge customer database.
