For the sweet tooth

Sweet World is celebrating its fifth anniversary

Sweet World, India’s pioneering retailer of candies that thrives on the concept of – pick ‘n’ mix is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

The whole concept is the brainchild of Vrinda Rajgarhia. She says, “The Indian market has a lot of potential for candies. As of now an average Indian spends only Rs.90 on candies per annum.”

The types of candies on offer include jellybeans, gummies and gumballs which come in exquisite shapes like candy necklaces, lips, hearts, crocodiles and the like.

The range

The entire range of products is imported from different European countries and the U.S.. Sweet World prices its candies at a standard rate of Rs.60/100gm; Rajgariha maintains that the prices have remained the same since Sweet World entered the market for the first time.

However, she agrees that the import duties on candies are still very high, as they are yet to organise a strong lobby towards this end.

For the calorie conscious Indian, Rajgariha says, “We have a whole range of sugar-free sweets for diabetics.” She lights up when she mentions an interesting experience. “I was extremely touched when a young couple walked into the store with their nine-day-old baby. It just goes to show that we have fans across all age groups”.As far as being a woman in the profession, she states, “The moment we start thinking of ourselves as women, the battle is lost.
