Burdened

The city is now facing severe water supply problems despite the river Cauvery flowing to its full capacity. To solve the problem of drinking water supply to the suburbs, proposition of water supply augmentation scheme is indeed a welcome move, but the move to increase the water tax and deposits is shocking. The hike in water tax and deposits would impose a heavy burden on poor and middle class families. Instead, the Corporation may try and get at least 75 per cent of the project cost as subsidy from the Central and State Governments. It is ironical to note that when the government is supplying free television sets on one side, it is increasing the tax burden on the people on the other.

Ramesh Balajee,

Tiruchi.
