Frequently, water supply is suspended due to damage in pipelines . A thorough study should be done, taking into account the quantum of water pumped and total water distributed in a day. Then the defective control valves and the damaged pipelines should be repaired or replaced accordingly. All the obsolete pumping installations should be replaced with energy efficient and correct capacity ones. Automatic "on/off" switches can be provided to avoid wastage due to overflowing. If required, energy audit can be done by authorised energy auditors. If such measures are taken , there will certainly be a scope for reduction in energy consumption and the tariff.
