Unfair
The proposed hike in water tax by the Tiruchi Municipal Corporation is unjust, unfair and opposed to principles of established procedures and the concerned provisions of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act 1920 (as amended relating to certain Sections and Rules under Act 23 of 2004) on providing of water supply and levying of tax and collection of charges for the tap connections given on requisitions of inhabitants of the localities. It is the duty of the Corporation to provide contamination-free potable water for use of inhabitants levying only reasonable charges. The Corporation has absolutely no power to go on increasing the charges or tax claimed by it as per its whims and fancy without any public hearing. The representatives of the inhabitants in wards should realise that it is their duty to oppose the steep hike. The Corporation should immediately drop its proposal.
