Dress up It’s time to get warm and fashionable

The chill is in the air, as the winter has just begun to set in. Fashion gurus vouch that this is the best time of the year to sign a style statement. So buy a few or pull out your best leather, denim and woollen wear from the closet to beat the chil l. It is the time to make a fashion statement, be it under the azure blue sky or below the wintry star-studded night sky.

But what’s in vogue for the women this year? In moderately cooler places, Indo-western stuff like jeans with short kurtis or tunics is the trend. Creative director of Queen’z Institute of Fashion S. Shanu Aravinda adds that a thick belt with a big buckle under the waist would add prominence to the Indo-western getup.

“It can be complete with a jacket, preferably one made of denim, and a stole casually dropped over the shoulders,” she says.

Stoles play a handy role during this season. On one side it can used to make a style statement and on the other side it can beat the chill.

Skirts are also in vogue. Long denim skirts could team in well with short shirts. The skirts could be a side slit straight one or a simple A-line skirt. “A wide belt and denim jacket can be added to the style. People on the night shifts in software companies and BPOs can use a Pashmina (shawl) or a woollen stole to build up the protection.”

On the accessories front, long beaded chains is the trend. For the partygoers heavy embroidered salwar suits or kurtis and saris could be the perfect wear. “Get decked with heavy kundan jewellery to add to the mood. People with Indo-western wear can wear light junk jewellery in tune with the occasion. Women who opt for saris can drop a shawl on the left shoulder. Whatever, be the occasion the accessories should be in tune with the dress and it should not dominate the dress that one is sporting on,” advises the creative director.

For the men the style is back to the turtlenecks. Turtleneck provides you the best of both the worlds by providing warmth and protection from the chilly wintry winds and also look elegant and fashionable. Moreover, turtlenecks can be used as both formal and informal wear during this season.

On the informal front, jeans teamed with full-sleeved turtleneck sweaters or T-shirts, depending on the chill, goes well with leather jackets.

Striped straight trousers with plain coloured shirts and matching blazers go well as formal wear. Dark colours like black, navy blue and brown are ideal colours for the season. “Cotton or woollen socks are best suited for the season but it all depends on how low the mercury drops. Avoid wearing double pair of socks, it will not only lead to discomfort but also emanate a foul smell,” says Shanu.

If stilettos are back for the women, the men look awesome with leather boots. The weather calls for liberal dosage of moisturisers and cold creams to protect the skin and women can go gaga with their makeup.
