CRAIG'S CALL

Friends are forever

Friends anchor our lives. Keep in touch with them.

BEING THERE You can be yourself with friends

We have such a range of of relationships in our lifetime. There are the ones with our parents, those with our partners, those with families of our own, but there is one relationship that we seldom have time for.

Even though there are those who claim that they’re all for it and some actually live each moment by its code (yes it does have a code) its sad to see that there are also many of us who take it for granted.

This is the relationship we share with our friends, and this column is for all those of us who’ve let it fade due to the pressures of work, love and petty differences.

Finding a friend isn’t hard it’s something we as humans do instinctively, but keeping one is a completely different story.

When you were in school, you and that gang of friends were going to change the world with your radical ideas but then there really wasn’t anything that hindered that relationship.

In college, you and your friends experienced the wonder of growing up and the change that accompanied it - the clothes, the music, the opinions, the freedom. And even though the future was uncertain there was a sense of optimism that at least you’d help each other out.

But here’s where things changed. Falling in love means time spent with friends is less and that spent with your partner is more.

Then comes the engagement not to mention the pressures of our job. In the bargain our friends take a back seat, and in the long run sometimes vanish forever, becoming nothing more than sweet memories we think about in times of nostalgia.

But there are two sides to every story. While friends will stay with you, some don’t justify the beauty of the relationship and sometimes you tend to be the loser. There are others however who will catch you whenever you fall. And those are the people who deserve nothing but the best from you as a friend.
