Don’t move. Watch your back. Are you hunching? Are your shoulders rounded? If yes, you may need the “remedial stretch programme” offered by the four fitness professionals Amanda Brewer, Jade Brewer, Ian Baker and Mark Chambers at th e FitnessOne centre in Kilpauk.

The programme is already popular in Chennai, says Amanda, thanks to the IT boom. Corporates hire them and employees are signing in. “Hunched shoulders contract your chest and abdominal muscles. It may result in digestive problems,” she says. With the remedial postures, adds Amanda, the rounded shoulders are straightened and the passage of air through the chest is made easier. “The rounded shoulders and the jutting chin compress the cervical vertebrae. It decreases the blood circulation to the brain and people get tired quickly.” Their next one-day programme is scheduled for October 28. The fee is Rs. 3,500.

The four trainers are also launching an I-Combat programme today (9 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.). The course fee for this one-day workshop is Rs. 3,500. This fitness regimen combines karate, boxing, kick boxing and Taekwondo moves, and will be done to peppy music. “You can combine it with your other workouts. You should change your fitness routine from time to time,” says Ian. “Compared to other exercises it is a more concentrated muscular movement, and therefore burns more fat,” says Amanda. Which muscles will it work? “It works all,” guffaws Ian.

Workplace fitness programme, combat exercises…you never know what it takes to get that salary hike.
