The third gender sound off
|
Why does society humiliate members of the third gender, asks J. Kavittha Devi
|
Recently, while waiting with my friends to board a train, I chanced to see a transgender wearing a half saree and begging for alms and clothes. Some people mimicked her gait and teased her.
Irked by this, she suddenly exposed herself just to prove that she was not faking it. As a woman, I could only weep. What a lot of pain she would have experienced to resort to such a step?
As human beings, can’t we understand their suffering? Why taunt these people for the way they look?
They were born with it. Imagine the agony of feeling like a woman and being trapped in a man’s body? The next time a transgender walks past, treat them with some humaneness.
