German touch A dessert on offer

The Oktoberfest is an annual event that is laden with the spirit of celebrating German cuisine. This time round Indians too can enjoy a slice of the pie as the Hotel Park Plaza, Gurgaon, is organising Oktoberfest – German Food Festival till No vember 10.Says Chef Vikas Pal, “The specialities include salad of sauerkraut and cream cheese, beer marinated grilled chicken, and roast pork with Brussels sprouts. Germans consume a lot of lamb, chicken and pork.” Clearly then, all non-vegetarians would be spoilt for choice. Beer is the festival’s most fabled refreshment. What sets the German beer (Paulaner) apart from others is the fact that unlike normal beers which are made of barley, this one is made of wheat. At the event, the official beers of Ocktoberfest will be served at a special package of buy six for the price of four.

Those concerned about their health can take it easy as the food is cooked in olive oil and it is not spicy. As far as desserts are concerned there are options galore like – cut up and sugared pancake, German cheese cake, choco apple and above all, the all time favourite black forest, which is indigenous to Germany. An official says, “We have ensured that we don’t compromise with the originality of the flavours. A lot of ingredients including sausages have been imported from Germany.”

In order to lend a complete German touch to the event, guests are in for a warm reception by hostesses receiving them in the traditional Bavarian uniform.

With winters round the corner, the food fest could serve as an ideal way to usher in the season with a dab of German flavour.
