Docu fest from November 2

The Alliance Francaise of Madras and the Max Mueller Bhavan (Goethe Institut), in collaboration with the Embassy of France in India, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Franco-German Television Channel ARTE and the Asian College of Jo
urnalism, present a five-day festival of documentaries “The World Through Arte’s Eyes” from November 2 to 6 at the Alliance Francaise of Madras auditorium.
The screening begins at 6 p.m. everyday. Entry is free.
ARTE was created in 1992 as a joint Franco-German venture with the goal of producing high quality programmes on art and culture. The effects of globalisation on people will be addressed as will migration in Europe, stories from South Asian countries and world music and cinema. The festival opens with two films on world music “A Visit to Ali Farka Toure” and “Desert Blues”. On November 3, the focus is on Europe. The films “Welcome Europa and “To Be and To Have” will be screened. On November 4, “Losers and Winners”, “Profit and Nothing Else” will throw light on globalisation. On November 5, “Comrades in Dreams” will tell about people for whom cinema is life. On November 6, “50 Hours to Kabul” and “I for India” two films which are a reflection on South Asia will be screened. Discussions and commentaries will follow the screening of each film.
