Silk Route showcases innovative home décor for Diwali

FESTIVE FASHION Furnishing and accessories on display at Silk Route

Matka silk, cotton, tussar, jute, rags and even paper form the collection at Silk Route. An exciting collection of designer accessories and innovative decor elements for interiors and furnishings make the ‘Silk Route’ Diwali Sale out of the ordinary. Even the usual touches of embroidery, sequin work, beads, lace work and patch work on fashion garments have been done to make individual style statements. So there’s embroidered pleated chiffon, silk and lycra tops, jewel coloured skirts, lace-edged leggings and ari embroidered stoles to lure Diwali shoppers.

Shimmering and with huge hand embroidered ‘amri’ motifs, ‘Silk Route’ also has on offer magnificent Pashmina shawls in red, green, blue and yellow. But it is the paper jewellery and ‘bijou’ fabric jewellery line that catch the attention of the young and the eco-conscious.

While the ‘bijou’ items are bits of cloth and scarves skilfully twisted and twirled into pretty neck and arm wear, the paper jewellery comprises a range of hand crafted ear-rings, necklaces, clips and rings.

Beautifully embroidered silk, jacquard, and matka silk upholstery and curtains and woven checks in the softest colours and colourful embroidered silk and patchwork cushions are another highlight of the exhibition. But perhaps the biggest surprises are the doors and windows featuring delicate Kashmiri hand embroidery on gauze trapped within two glass panes. The delicate doors and windows are the handiwork of designer Ilona Bartar of Auroville.

The ‘Silk Route’ Diwali Sale ends on November 9. The store is situated at 10B, 14th Avenue, Harrington Road, Chetpet.
