Cashing in on the title value

“Naan Aval Illai” is a serial that is making waves on Kalaignar TV. Directed by K. Balachander, it tries to cash in on the veteran director’s classic “Naan Avan Illai”, starring Gemini Ganesan, which was recently re-made with Jeevan in the lead. In its television avatar, the only difference is the protagonist is a woman. The story revolves around Anitha (Indiraja) who, due to circumstances, has to disguise herself as Vanitha, a non-existent twin sister of Anitha! What follows is a comedy of errors resulting in Anitha juggling various disguises and sojourning in prison as well. The serial is produced by Pushpa Kandasamy, proves that old film titles have tremendous recall value.
