Ruchi Good food, reasonably priced

Help yourself The buffet at Ruchi

It was pouring as I stepped into Ruchi, Hotel Geeth. Chilled to the bone, I prayed hot soup would be a part of the buffet. Hmm, seafood chowder and sweet corn vegetable soup. Well, being the seafood enthusiast I am, seafood chowder it is. Piping hot, the juicy prawns and pieces of fish is a meal in itself.

Warm and cosy, I take a look around. The ambience is good. Bright tones on the wall and good lighting makes the restaurant inviting. What I like about the place is that it is not cramped with tables and chair. And the music is good too; instrumental.

Good blend of cuisine

Humming to the music of ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,’ I decide to check out the buffet. “We have a bit of everything in our buffet. There’s desi, Chinese and continental. And for those who prefer a nadan sadhya, we offer that too,” says T.R. Prethish, assistant manager, food and beverage, Ruchi.

A salad person, I head to the counter, fruits in mayonnaise catch my attention. The salad was a fusion of tastes – sweet, sour, salty. Definitely worth a second helping. As nothing else quite caught my attention, I decide to go for the main course.

Vegetable noodles with boneless chilly chicken made a good combination. Although the noodles were a tad too oily for me, the chilly chicken had crisp pieces of chicken delicately spiced. Chilly vegetable (sliced vegetables dipped in batter and fried crisp) was my favourite. It went well with the fried rice.

Those who enjoy North Indian food will enjoy the fluffy phulkas with creamy, thick dal or mutton vindaloo.

For takers of sadhyas, there is a variety of traditional vegetarian dishes such as cabbage thoran, coconut chutney and fried ladies finger and pickles to choose from.

“We also have ‘kappa’ and fish curry and according to availability, mussels, squid and prawn-based dishes,” says Pretish.

Although semiya payasam was available for dessert, I had fresh cuts of fruit topped with a scoop of ice cream to top off my meal.

At Rs. 140 for each person, the buffet at Ruchi is value for money.
