A fantastic show was put up by tiny tots at the Rajagiri Kids Fest
|
Show time Sixty five kindergarten schools from in and around Kochi participated in the Kids Fest
Tiny tots dressed up as flowers, as peacocks, lions, tigers…a variety of guises was what welcomed one to the venue of Rajagiri Kids Fest organised by the school at its Kalamaserry campus on November 8. It was a festival alright! The whole event
spelt F. U. N., not just for the kids but for the parents too.
With every successive year, the Kids Fest continues to draw more participants from in an around Kochi. In fact, this year there were participants from Kozhikode and Idukki too. “This year, like last year, there were around 65 schools that participated. However, what is interesting is that some of the schools that comprise the 65 this year are new schools. Some of the schools were unable to make it to this year’s competition,” says Shini Cyriac, headmistress of Rajagiri kindergarten.
The fest is conducted every year around Children’s Day, generally on a second Saturday so that parents too can arrange the schedules accordingly. The Parent Teacher Association is one of the driving forces behind the event, asserts Ms. Cyriac.
Fun time
A lot of effort had gone into the event . At the outset itself the headmistress made it clear that the event, or rather the idea behind the event is not about initiating tots into unhealthy competition but just about letting them (and their parents) have fun. And of that there was in plenty. Naveen Philip, president of PTA, Rajagiri Kindergarten, is one happy person, “Everything went well, with clockwork precision. We had the support of the school, and the PTA members.” There was a ‘funtime’ for parents as well, with stage shows, magic show, lucky draw, and music. Besides there were stalls selling different products and a canteen as well. While the teachers of the participating schools could not stop gushing about the fest the kids however were just too shy to speak to strangers. But left to themselves they were having a blast, with their kits full of goodies and out with their teachers all on their ‘own’. Looking very serious, since serious business was at hand, the kiddies moved from one venue to venue in the campus.
Kindergarten, one would think was after all kindergarten, all about little kids what else? Not so! In terms of the preparation it was no holds barred, be it preparing the kids for action song, group dance, origami, light music, storytelling (which were just some of the activities) there was no compromise evident in the quality of the show put up. “We got a dance teacher to train our kids for the group dance competition. We wanted to be on par with the schools that are participating,” says Jessy, a teacher at Akshara School, Perumbavoor.
Says an impressed Radha Ramakrishna, a grandmother, “Things are so much more organised than before when my kids went to school. There is interface between parents and teachers and between parents as well. ” Serena, a parent of a four-year-old who studies in Marthoma Public School, “My son participated in the action song, the competition sure is stiff even at this level. And I am happy with the way everything has been done.” The festival concluded with a prize distribution ceremony which was given away actors Prithviraj and Vimala Raman.
