What is the best home remedy to remove upper lip hair? — Suniti

Home remedies are not suitable to remove facial hair. But they may discourage facial hair growth if used regularly over a period of time. You may try any of the following remedies to discourage or lessen facial hair growth. Make a thick paste of sugar, lemon juice and water and apply it in the direction of the hair growth.

Wash it off when it dries. Apply it once or twice a week. Or, apply a paste of turmeric powder and milk and rub this on the skin in a circular motion. It is said to discourage facial hair, but it may leave a yellowish tinge on the skin.

I have brown freckles on my cheeks which spoil my fair complexion. — Priyanka

Fair skin is more prone to freckles. Apply a sunscreen lotion before going out in the sun. If you stay out in the sun for a long duration, re-apply the sunscreen. Mix oatmeal with curd and apply it on the face three times a week. Wash it off when it dries or after half an hour. Mix one teaspoon each of honey, curd and lemon juice and apply it daily on the face, at any time. Wash it off after20 minutes.

The back of my neck looks black. My eyes are dull. What should I do to make my eyes look bright? Also suggest a natural face pack that will make me fair complexioned. — Shyami

For the neck, mix besan with curd, lemon juice and a little haldi and apply it daily. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Then apply til oil and massage it into the skin.

Protect the neck with a scarf or chunni when you are out in the sun. For the eyes, mix cucumber juice and chilled rose water in equal quantities. Soak cotton wool pads in it and apply over closed eyes daily. Lie down and relax with the eye pads on for 15 minutes. Twice a week, mix together one teaspoon of curd, one teaspoon of honey, three teaspoons of oatmeal and one teaspoon of lemon juice, for a face mask. Apply it on the face and wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes.

My hair is dry and dull. How can I make it shine? — Anees

Twice a week heat pure coconut oil and apply it on the scalp and hair, the night before a shampoo. After shampooing, apply a creamy conditioner, using less quantity and massaging it lightly into the hair.

Leave it on for two minutes and rinse it off with water. Or, apply a “leave-on” type of conditioner or hair serum. Apply it the same way, but do not rinse it off. Weekly henna treatments will help. Add four teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, two raw eggs, two teaspoons of oil and enough “tea water” to the henna powder, mixing it into a thick paste. Apply the henna on the hair and wash it off after an hour. If you do not wish to use egg, add more tea water.

I am a vegetarian. But many of your home remedies contain eggs. What can I use in henna or in face masks instead of egg? — Meenakshi

You can leave out egg and increase the quantity of curd or tea-water in the henna paste. Eggs help cleanse and nourish the skin. Honey, curd and olive oil also nourish the skin. So these ingredients may be used in face masks. Lemon or orange juices may be added too. For oily skin, add lemon juice instead of egg. For dry skin, add olive oil and orange juice.
