Planet Retail, a fashion and lifestyle retailer in India, has just launched the British department store, Debenhams at the New Ambience Mall in Gurgaon. British High Commissioner Richard Stagg inaugurated the store. Speaking on the occasion, The Chie
f Executive of Debenhams, Rob Templeman said, “Debenhams offers a strong brand in a contemporary shopping environment, which should excite local shoppers.” There are also plans to rope in Indian designers todiversify the patterns available, he said. The two-storied department store features men, women and children’s clothing, lingerie, footwear, premium cosmetics and fragrances. The store boasts of exclusive collections from designers like J by Jasper Conran, Rocha by John Rocha and Star by Julien Macdonald.
Francis McAuley, the International Director of Debenhams, said, “Today, the Indian consumers travel far and wide and are connoisseurs in their own right. A partnership like ours should raise the bar in Indian retail.” He said, “We plan to come up with 10 more stores in the next three years.” Talking about the location of the store, V.P. Sharma, Chairman of Planet Retail Holdings, said, “Gurgaon is the perfect location given the fact that the town is symbolic of growth.”
