MANE ATTRACTION Bony Sasidharan at the salon
This man shampoos his hair every single day…. But he grabs the right conditioner, after the wash. Bony Sasidharan, hair expert and technical adviser at Schwarzkopf, who was here recently, says that with heavy pollution, it is okay to shampoo yo
ur hair frequently. He gave a lot of suggestions to the staff and clients, and we picked up a few.
“Since there is a lot of dust in the air you can use a good shampoo whenever you want to cleanse your hair. If you have normal hair without any dandruff, then you must use an after-wash conditioner because the conditioner forms a thin, shiny layer. While it keeps the hair smooth and stylish, the coating that it forms protects the hair from the dust,” he explained. Bony however, cautioned that even the conditioner must be rinsed out properly each time.
Bony came to train the staff at the Naturals unisex salon on M.G. Road in Puducherry for three days. Before the hair-styling session with the clients, he had a five-minute chat with each, which was packed with questions and suggestions. He first asked what kind of look the person wanted, explained what he planned to do and what the final effect would be. Of course after the treatment, Bony explained, what must be done to maintain the style.
Frizzy hair
“Normally people come to a salon looking for a change in style and some suggestions from the stylist. A stylist needs to first picturise the hair style that would suit the client. If people want bouncy hair, blow drying is an option. If they want more volume, when their hair falls flat and is limp, the top layer is cut a bit shorter than the rest,” he demonstrated, as he worked on a client. If you want more volume and don’t have time to go to a stylist then a shampoo that gives more volume can be used.
If you have thick, frizzy hair then an anti-frizz shampoo will work wonders. If you have coloured, straightened or permed hair then a conditioner is a must every time you shampoo. Also, the shampoo that you use must have more moisture. “It’s a myth to say that one loses hair after such styling is done,” he added.
Oil massage
Everyone who has normal hair with no dandruff needs to massage oil into the scalp for about an hour. “It provides lubrication for the hair and when you massage with circular motion on the scalp for 5-10 minutes, it improves blood circulation,” said Bony. “You needn’t leave oil over night but an hour before shampooing is enough.”
If you want to use any hair styling products like spray or gel its better to do so in consultation with a trained hair stylist, he suggested. “The stylist will know about your hair texture and what kind of products will suit you. If there is any kind of itching or problem with the products you must go back to the stylist,” said Bony as we concluded the interview.
