Several city schools are taking part in the Classmate Young Author and Artist contest
|
The Classmate Young Author and Artist Contest arrives in Chennai. Kickstarted across 250 schools in Mumbai earlier, it is now being rolled out across 5,000 schools in 34 cities. In Chennai alone, 325 schools are taking part in the contest.
This year, over 10,00,000 children are expected to participate. The national final will be held in Mumbai at the end of January 2008.
Registration forms will be made available in the schools and students will have to submit their entries in their respective schools itself. The contest is designed to create an atmosphere for the young to learn, explore, enjoy and connect to the literary and art world. The stories and paintings will be judged on parameters such as relevance to the topic, originality of idea, storyline, use of colour and so on.
The city level winners will compete in the national finals and will be judged by a jury led by eminent writer Ruskin Bond.
The jury will also comprise renowned people from the literary world. The winner of the Classmate Young Author Contest will win a trip to Paris while Rupa & Co. will publish the stories of all the national finalists in a book which will be edited by Ruskin Bond.
The top 40 paintings of the Classmate Young Artist Contest will also be exhibited at the national final as part of an All-India Painting Exhibition.
The school rounds are expected to end on November 25 and the three city winners will be announced on December 20.
