The dazzler!

Deepika Padukone has arrived in Bollywood

Impressive Deepika Padukone

Just one film old, Deepika Padukone has already been declared the next big thing in Bollywood. “I never thought I would act. It just happened to me and now I am enjoying it.

A big break with Shah Rukh (Khan) to take a leap in the film industry at the age of 19, what more could I have bargained for,” Padukone says.

Her debut movie, Om Shanti Om has received a fine opening at the box office.

Not a cakewalk

However, it was not a cakewalk for her to enact the role of a film star of the seventies in the movie. Her looks and body language had to be completely transformed to suit the role and working with Shah Rukh was a big responsibility by itself. “I had to meet the expectations of Shah Rukh, Farah (Khan) as well as the audience. I think I have made everyone proud as the movie is getting a positive feedback,” says the daughter of former badminton player Prakash Padukone. And after seeing herself on the big screen, how did she rate her performance?

“I am definitely not perfect. But I want to graduate towards perfection with every successive movie,” she says. But was her launch, which coincided with that of star kids like Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, anyway affected?

“I don’t think so as all of us were working on our respective projects which were entirely different in nature. Om Shanti Om is a romantic comedy, whereas Sawariya is a pure love story,” Padukone defends. Well then, any plans to watch Sawariya? “Why not? I am looking forward to catch the movie sometime,” she smiles.

After Om Shanti Om, her hands are full with new projects but she prefers not to name any. “It is too early to talk about new projects. Let me enjoy Om Shanti Om for some more time.” Well, Padukone seems to have learned the tricks of the trade already.
