Laugh riot

The non-stop chatter box Navjot Singh Sidhu meets the glamorous Mandira Bedi in a brand new comedy show “Funjabbi Chak De” on Star One (Friday, 8 p.m.) The show will be graced by a celebrity singer every week and introducing them will be the ravishing Karishma Tanna and the humorous Gurpal Singh. Says Prem Kamath, VP Content and Communications Star TV: “Star One has created the ‘laughter genre’ on Indian television, and with this show we will take fun to another level. The main concept of the show is to give the audience a complete entertainment package. You will also be surprised to see Mandira and Navjot in a completely different avatar.

Small screen, big entry

Pyramid Saimira, Kollywood’s leading producer-distributor-exhibitor, now makes a small screen entry in a big way.

It is already producing three Tamil programmes for the newly-launched Kalaignar TV- “Mazhalai Pattalam”, “Rekha IPS” and “Thirumagal”. And by Pongal 2008, it plans to launch two mega serials for Jaya TV and Raj TV, and a game show for yet another channel.

This means that Pyramid Saimira’s television division; Pyramid Saimira Productions (PSP), will produce three hours of Tamil programming a day, the highest ever among regional channels in the South.

Says Subhaa Venkat, creative head of PSP: “There is a boom in television channels across India. All of them require content for their programming. So we have decided to make programmes in a dozen Indian languages, which have their own channels.”

Subha feels there is huge dubbing potential region wise, for example, PSP’s popular Tamil serial “Rekha IPS” is likely to be dubbed into Telugu and Malayalam. Adds Subhaa: “The immediate target of PSP is to produce 32 hours of programming a day in nine languages, by the end of next year making us a major player in television software in the country.” It looks like there is going to be competition for Ekta Kapoor and her Balaji Telefilms!

Who’s your favourite?

Who are the hottest stars in Bollywood? To know this, you have to watch the Shilpa Shukla, Tanya Abrol and Chitrashi Rawat-anchored “Sabsey Favourite Kaun 2008”, the biggest Bollywood opinion poll.

The hosts of Star Gold’s one-of-its-kind initiative will air a curtain-raiser episode this Sunday that will give viewers a peek at what’s in store for the coming year, with some nostalgic memories of the last four power-packed grand finales of “Sabsey Favorite Kaun” and more to be aired simultaneously on Star Gold, Star One and Star Utsav.

Listen to the undisputed Sabsey Favourite Hero Shah Rukh Khan and Sabsey Favourite Heroine Rani Mukherjee share their take on being the favourite for the last four years.

And to add to the excitement, is the ‘Movie Mela Festival’ on Star Gold.
