Films based on the environment will be screened

Red Cherub The film ‘Cherub of the Mist’ is on the life of two red pandas
The 2nd International Environment and Film Festival, Aranyam 2007, organised by Act Now Trust, Bangalore, will be held at the Chavara Cultural Centre, Kochi, from November 23-25.
Noted nature filmmaker Mike Pandey will inaugurate the festival at 5.30 p.m. This will be followed by the screening of the films ‘The 18th Elephant’ by P. Balan and ‘Angels in Tiger Land’ by Suresh and Radha Elamon.
Climate Chaos in India will be the theme of the second day’s films. Among the films to be screened, perhaps for the first time in the city, are the BBC production ‘Are We Changing Planet Earth?’ and its sequel ‘Can We Save Planet Earth?’; ‘A Green Agony on Sunderbans’; ‘Climates First Orphan’ on the drowned villages in coastal Orissa and ‘The Weeping Apple Tree’ which talks about the shift in plantations because of global warming. This will be followed by a panel discussion on Carbon Neutral Kochi.
The final day, will come under the banner Wild Spectrum. The films screened on the day will focus on the diversity of our unique wildlife and the disastrous effects of human encroachment. Landmark films like ‘Tiger Death,’ ‘Cherub of the Mist,’ and ‘Wild Dog Diaries’ will be screened. A workshop on ‘RTI for Environment and Wildlife,’ wildlife photography exhibition, organised in association with The Butterfly Art Foundation, and an interactive session on wildlife photography, headed by noted photographer Nandakumar Moodadi, will also be held.
