Fashion for unity
This “Threads of Unity” is meant to stitch together the fashion sensibilities of the eight SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries. In what is a first for the Indian ramps, The Fashion Design Council of India has been commissioned by the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Council for Cultural Relations to organise a SAARC fashion show.
The show is set to coincide with the SAARC Council of Ministers meeting and will unveil at the Maurya Sheraton on December 7.
Taking regional co-operation among SAARC countries to another level and enhancing people to people connectivity, the SAARC Cultural Festival is being institutionalised with the first one being organised by India. SAARC bands festival, folklore festival, food festival, an exhibition on the “Textile traditions of South Asia,” SAARC sales outlet and the SAARC car rally photo exhibition will also be part of the Cultural Festival.
The SAARC fashion show titled “Threads of Unity” will bring together 14 talented designers from eight nations and India will be represented by Ritu Kumar and Anamika Khanna.
The show is meant to highlight the rich textile tradition of each country and showcase indigenous handicrafts and embroideries.
