Of mirchi parantha and minced meat

Tasty Kashmiri aloo served at Earthern Flavours

Earthen Flavors is one of the mushrooming restaurants in South Delhi, strictly for those craving for a ‘desi’ meal. Located in Kailash Colony market, the two-month-old restaurant offers Mughlai food. Weekends are usually busy here and you may have to wait for a table.

The menu is as predictable as it can get. Your meal can start with a shorba. Take tomato shorba which is no miracle here, but a decent experience nevertheless. Those willing to start with a mocktail can go for a fruit punch or a virgin mojito with crushed ice, lemon chunk and a dash of mint with eyes shut. For both are good to start a dining out experience.

Chicken bhayankar

Starters offer a variety, particularly for chicken lovers. Choose from murgh malai tikka, lahsuni tikka, achari tikka and the like. But the show stealer is bharva tangri kabab, which is chicken leg stuffed with minced meat and cooked in ginger-garlic paste. Vegetarians, however, may get disappointed on this front. Besides the usual paneer tikka, you can try the tandoori bharva aloo to lift your spirit.

The main course again has a lot of chicken and mutton dishes. Chicken bhayankar is a spicy version of a thick chicken curry with minced mutton – too hot to handle! Mutton burra is a good option as the mutton is marinated in papaya juice and some ‘desi’ spices overnight. Navratan korma, dal makhani and kadhai paneer may sound clichéd, but are cooked to near perfection.

Missi parantha, khasta parantha and lachha parantha certainly complement the culinary experience at Earthen Flavors. The mirchi parantha is strictly for the adventurous souls. This multi-layered parantha may leave you with a heartburn! Conclude your meal with phirni kesri or some hot gulab jamun. All in all, Earthen Flavours is a good option for those with hardcore Punjabi taste buds. The approximate average cost of a meal for two is around Rs.500.
