Brunch on Sundays at Taj Green Cove Resort, Kovalam, is breakfast, lunch and many more things rolled into one.
An elaborate buffet is spread out at Jasmine Bay, the eatery by the hotel’s poolside. The variety of food on display is mind-boggling. Apart from the regular menu of soup, salads, noodles, meen vattichathu, Szechwan paneer and so on, there are 10 specialty counters.
Seafood grill
The live seafood grill catches your attention immediately. Displayed on a catamaran are fresh prawns, mussels, seer fish and calamari. Choose your pick and have it cooked the way you like it on the spot.
While the chat counter is for those who love Pani Puri, Bhel puri and various varieties of chat, the pasta counter offers four varieties of whole wheat pasta in creamy sauces. A salad counter will definitely appeal to weight watchers.
At the Tandoor counter, chef Minish flips a Rumali roti into the air and catches it skilfully. Have the hot and soft rotis with the gravy of your choice at the counter itself.
Pick the wine of your choice from the sparkling wine counter and take a bite of cheese from the cheese counter. They make a perfect combo.
The dessert counter has an impressive display of mouth-watering items; espresso meringue tart, pineapple jalousie, frozen maple nut parfait and chocolate marquise to name a few.
Spiced ice creams
The pastry chef Stanly urges one to taste his personal favourite – the Zuccotto, an Italian dish made with cream, mixed nuts and a little bit of vodka. The dessert counter also serves different kinds of ice cream, the specialty being ice cream flavoured with spices such as pepper, ginger and cardamom.
For those with a sweet tooth, there is the chocolate counter where chocolate fudge is the hot favourite. Chief chef Bobby keeps a close eye to ensure that all the guests enjoy the food.
Priced at Rs. 1,500 for each person, inclusive of tax, the Sunday Brunch is excellent value for money, says Surinder Singh, the General Manager of Taj Green Cove Resorts.
However, Sunday brunch at Taj is not just about food but also about fun. The in-house magician-cum-activity coordinator Suresh Kumar, who has been practising magic for 15 years, mesmerises the guests with his tricks. There is live music with karaoke, so those of you who have a good voice can croon a number or two for your dear ones.
A Philippino band is due to arrive in a week’s time to rock the customers. The brunch also includes a relaxing boat ride through the beautiful lagoon on the hotel grounds.
So if it’s a Sunday, you know just where to head for food, beverage and fun-unlimited.
