Dance with a heart

La Ramp and Footloose were dance programmes with a strong social message

a step In the right direction

It was a weekend with a difference: a treat to the eyes, music to the ears and a message for the heart. Around 500 students of Edwin’s dance school Footloose gave theme-oriented dance performances for La Ramp and Footloose.

The two-day dance carnival showcased amateur dancers, professionals, and also the masters who choreographed the event. From tiny tots to teens to parents, all took the stage! Choreographed by Edwin, Wrong Contemporary was the first number to which the group tapped their feet.

What followed was a message on polio. Girls in glittering costumes danced to the theme music of Kisna. Dressed in orange and green, and with daflis tied to their hips, the boys jigged to an instrumental number from Sounds of Isha.

Balancing act

Next came 20 breathtaking minutes of Karagam. Balancing three pots and a kaavadi, M. Ganesh juggled two balls, all the time moving around the stage on roller skates!

In a few minutes, the audience were transported to Egypt. Dressed in Egyptian costumes, men and women danced to an Egyptian number on a stage lit to bring alive the desert sands.

Shortly after, it was a trip the land of the dragons. With two dragons on the stage, the man sporting a Chinese hat and the woman waving an oriental fan, it was a true Chinese setting.

Time for tiny tots! The butterfly hunters (boys) danced with butterflies (girls).

The butterflies flapped their wings in joy as they danced. Little did they realise they were trapped in the hunters’ nets!

Twenty students who made it to Jaya TV’s Little Masters Show took the stage next, and danced to various numbers.

One of them, Pranav Praveen, had bagged the Best Entertainer Award in the show.

Parents day out

Day two packed in a surprise. The performances were by the youngest learners of the group: parents of Footloose students! They danced to Hindi and Tamil numbers.

In the two fashion shows, showcasing creations from Pavizham Jewellers, models scorched the ramp in black party wear and sporting jewellery studded with diamonds. They displayed everything from simple gold jewellery to elaborate wedding pieces.
