Homemade and handmade

This yearly Xmas sale at St Teresa’s College was a sell out

ALMA MATER The Teresian Alumni Association held its annual Christmas sale

Homemade, hand made and from home-based businesses run by women, the products at the 70-odd stalls and 15 food stalls at the annual Xmas sale, St. Teresa’s College was a sellout.

Organised by the Teresian Alumni Association, the sale was a grand success.

Homecoming

Sister Christabelle, Principal and president of the Alumni Association said, “The Xmas sale is like a festival, a homecoming, a way of bringing a number of old students, retired teachers back to the campus. Some stalls are reserved for social organisations, free of cost. This is one way of propagating the work and cause of the differently-abled and special children.”

Claramma Thomas, Secretary of the Association said, “The Old Students Association has been active for several decades with lots of life members. The one and only aim of this annual Xmas sale is to promote women entrepreneurs, to give them a platform to market their goods. We call it a Teresian family affair.”

Raisin wine, tapioca cutlets filled with beetroot ‘achaar’ and ‘chammanthy’, vatteappam , natural vanilla extract , curry powders, paalada, pancharatnam balls, coconut burfi, beef and fish cutlets, soya nest, ‘fried rice, fruit salad, homemade chocolates and butter cake were some of the goodies found in the food stalls.

Kusumagiri Rehabilitation Centre, Kakkanad and the Cultural Academy for Peace, Kacheripady presented homemade pickles, handmade Xmas cards, fancy handkerchiefs, stuffed toys and potted plants. Grace Joseph, an ikebana expert imported flowers from Johannesburg especially for the event. Products from Malayattor, Udayamperoor ,Wayanad, Nagercoil, Tirupur, and Jaipur found a place here.

Products

Stores such as ‘Home Beautiful’, ‘Abode’, ‘Tamanna’ and ‘Feline’ also participated in the sale.

An eclectic collection of trendy churidar materials, readymade kurtas, home furnishing accessories , temple jewellery from Tamil Nadu, traditional Rajasthani bangles, fancy saris and bedsheet sets with intricate hand embroidery, cross stitch, shadow, appliqué and cut work , baby dresses, kitchen curtains , cloth wine bags, homemade health and beauty products from Kalpetta, decorative candles, clay products, oil paintings, cloth and jute bags, household linen and home learning programmes by Time Life all found shelf space at the sale. And more than all this it saw old friends and classmates bonding once again…. those past years together.
