My Kind of Place -- Shahnaz Hussain

Things of beauty

Face or place, I have an eye for beauty. After all my life revolves round it. Beauty keeps the world going too. Lush green grass, undulating snow-capped mountains, calm blue sea, large eyes, flawless complexion, long silky tresses… all a source of joy. Since this is a travel column, I will talk about beautiful places and not people. I can never have enough of London and Honolulu (Hawai).

24x7 excitement

No coma, no full-stop. Life in London moves at an exciting pace 365 days, just the way I like my life to be — action-packed. No wonder, most modern souls can’t help loving London. I make several trips in a year to this metropolis. Once I stayed there for 18 months at a stretch. Still it’s never boring to go back. For me, no separate ‘work’ and ‘break’ holidays. During leisure, that is the time I get after business meetings and discussions through the day (she recently opened an Ayurvedic centre in Harley Street), I go for long walks and have coffee at Starbucks.

Experience tranquillity

Honolulu is a picture of contrast. Visually stunning and covered in a blanket of calmness, it’s a destination that is sure to have a refreshing effect on you. The first time I visited Honolulu was in 1987 and was thrilled when I made a second trip in 1997. Walking barefoot on the sand and lying on the beach to the sounds of the sea is what I do when in Honolulu.

Bagsful

Shopping is great fun in London. Handbags, clothes, shoes and accessories, I usually do not return without picking a few. Not a foodie though, I love the idea of going to interesting restaurants that experiment with flavours and specialise in exotic cuisine. In London, it’s “Royal China”.

Travel?

Travel is the love of my life. I get restless when I am not on my toes.
