The winner is…

Diwali 2007 has turned out to be a bit of a dampener, as there are no clear winners at the Tamil Nadu box-office. Among the films released, “Vel”, a family entertainer, is emerging as a safe bet, especially in the B and C stations mainly because of the lead pair Surya-Asin and director Hari’s story based on identical twins. The Dhanush starrer “Polladhavan” will break even, and is strong in Chennai city and the suburbs. The trade is worried that there has not been any super hit this Diwali, as they feel that most of the movies were rehashes of earlier films or lifted from Hollywood. Meanwhile, the real big winner worldwide, this Diwali, is Shah Rukh Khan’s “Om Shanti Om”!
