Talent and experimentation marked the sequence of skits

Scenes from the play Exploring life in Chennai
It was marked by a confluence of raw talent and beautifully naïve experimentation.
While the script may not have been completely original, the combination of the response from the audience and the confidence and sheer ease of performance, were refreshing and commendable.
The evening followed a sequence of skits – ASAP’s SKETCH IT - that explored, with signature duality, many aspects of life endemically pertaining to Chennai.
There were pieces on bookstores - (‘Watermark’ - signifying Landmark), a skit on Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ in an Indian ‘avatar’ and another on ‘Chak de Restaurant’ in London - illustrating the plight of South Asians abroad. While there were technical issues with respect to how the troupe wished to project itself, there was much to be said for the precocious nature of the show.
The two protagonists could not have been over 24 years of age, but the confidence and maturity of their performance left us with the knowledge that ‘the best is yet to come’.
Amit has been a full-time performer for the past two years, and Venky, is a college student.
The skits are being performed again at Alliance Française on December 7th, 8th and 9th.
