It’s pantomime time

The Little Theatre stages “Pirates of the Curried Beans!” from December 14 to 18

The Little Theatre is back to add its special touch to Christmas celebrations in the city with its pantomime “Pirates of the Curried Beans!” This year, the artistes will transport the audience to the Caribbean islands in the 1500s when pi racy was at its height, through its latest production.

The production will be staged at the Museum Theatre from 14 to 18 December. There will be two shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively on from December 14 to 17, while on December 18 there will only be one show at 7 p.m. Donor passes priced at Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 are available at Landmark, Pro-Music and Oxford Bookstore.

The cast includes Poppy Krishnakumar, Ashley, Rohini, Kelly, Vrinda, Zubin and 65 kids of The Little Theatre. The show has been produced by Aysha Rau and directed by Michael Muthu, assisted by Shakila Arun. It has been scripted by Michael Muthu, Aysha Rau and Shakila Arun. The sets and lights are by Michael Muthu. Choreography is by Naimet Currimbhoy, Neha Reddy and Ashley Shillong. The music directors are Deviyani Poppy Murali and Dr Mohan David Soundararaj and the costumes by The Pearl Academy of Fashion Design.

“Pirates…:” is a well known tale with numerous twists. It is set in a completely over the top Caribbean island. The young, handsome Sparrow falls hopelessly in love with Crimson Sabre. Captain Hook is also enamoured by Crimson. But the 350-year-Old Hag Hilderetta has designs on him too. Dame Esmeralda is still deeply in love with Captain Ahab. Woven in this intricate web is the real adventure. The quest for the curried beans is the passport to supremacy in the Pirate World. There are the usual songs, dances and slapstick comedy. Will the good win over the bad? Will Sparrow marry his bride? Will the Dame ever find true love? Will Hook have his way? The answers will be revealed at The Museum Theatre.

The show is more than just entertainment. It is a fundraiser for the weekly creative workshops for underprivileged children, weekly spoken English classes for children, seven-year scholarships for four underprivileged children every year, a street theatre production by the children and The Little Theatre’s Sailing Project at RMYC.
