Tricks and money matters

Magic shows that teach you a thing or two about investments

At work Madhava Rao is good at pulling a few clever tricks

R. Madhava Rao is good at pulling a few clever tricks. He would have remained as one among the many magicians capable of making the audience clap and laugh to his tricks. But he did want to raise the bar and subtly throw in a caution or two about inv estments. He calls himself industrial magician and has been busy performing at shows around the country.

Banking and finance are the themes he explores. “Through my shows, I educate people from both the urban and the rural areas on how to make money and most importantly, on how not to get duped,” he says. He dissuades the audience from getting lured by schemes that promise huge interest rates without reading the fine print.

All this started way back in 1989 when he was invited to conduct a magic show for a bank in Prakasam district. By then, he had already won the National Award for the Best Magician.

Wanting to do something unique, he thought of a few tricks that would talk about money and investment.

The show went on to be a success and he was invited with a request to explore similar themes. This led to a series of industrial magic shows. Madhava Rao did his 100th show in the series for Andhra Bank. In recognition of his work, he was also conferred with the Vishal Bharati Gaurava Sarkar for cultural and industrial magic.
