Car and bike questions? We have the answers
|
I own a Santro Xing and want to buy another car. My budget is around Rs 7 lakh -9 lakh. Now, I want a vehicle that is preferably a diesel vehicle and I really like the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Scorpio. Of the two, which is more fuel-efficient and comfortable? What other options do I have?
Shankar
As far as the shortlist goes, it has to be the Innova. It’s reliable, spacious and comfortable. The ride and handling is spot on. Plus, it being a Toyota, quality levels are top-notch. The Scorpio on the other hand, offers you loads of street presence but it is not as spacious as it should be and the ride is still not the best. You can’t go wrong with the Toyota.
I own a 2005 Santro Xing. I want to know how much it would cost to get a K&N air filter and sports exhaust. Will this decrease my car’s mileage, and is it a good idea?
Rahul Tharakan
A K&N filter (box replacement) should cost you in the region of Rs. 3,500-Rs 4,000. A sports exhaust depending on type and materials used can cost anything from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 15,000. A well designed free-flow exhaust should give you better fuel efficiency figures. But you generally end up revving the engine more to hear the sound and loose out on fuel efficiency.
Could you compare Tata Indigo DICOR with the Mahindra-Renault Logan? I also want to know about other cars that might be worth buying in the same segment.
Pinnamaneni Divakar
Of the two cars, the Logan has better quality, is spacious and rides and handles very well. Overall, it is a better car than the Indigo. But you have to live with the boxy styling and awkward placement of switches. Cost cutting is quite evident in some places. The Indigo on the other hand is much more conventional but suffers from inconsistent quality and poor plastics.
I plan to buy a new car and have a budget of Rs 3 lakh-4 lakh. I want a car with good performance, decent mileage and decent comfort. What are my options?
Venkatesh Kumar
Your could choose between the Santro, i10, Spark, Wagon R, Zen Estilo or Indica and if you stretch a bit, you could also go for a Swift. The Indica and the Swift are from a higher segment which means you get a lot more space and comfort, and better performance. The Swift is good but given your budget, you’ll have to opt for the no-frills LXi model. The Indica on the other hand gives you loads of features, but the quality isn’t the best. Out of the other cars, the i10 is the best of the lot. It’s much better than the Santro and will give you decent city performance as well. But if you really want performance, choose between the Indica petrol/Turbo or the Swift. Otherwise, the i10 it is.
