Here comes India’s first international auction house
|
The appreciating rupee and India Inc’s meteoric rise in the global business fraternity have been in the news for some time now. But it is not just traditional business conglomerates and software companies who are making their presence felt in t
he global firmament. The country is now all set to have its first international auction house, Bid & Hammer, which will make its mark on the global stage with live auctions in major art centres like New York, London, Dubai, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
Taking Indian art to a global sphere, something not been attempted earlier, Bid & Hammer will function as a full-service auction house offering a wide spectrum of expertise like authentication, provenance, valuation, conservation, restoration, etc. across all major categories of fine and decorative arts and antiques.
A brainchild of Maher Dadha, Chairman & Managing Director of the company, Bid & Hammer, has a team of directors and experts who include John R.B. Dabney (former Director, Phillips auctioneers), Professor Suresh Jayaram (artist, historian and former Head of Department of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat), Savita Apte (until recently head of Sotheby’s South Asian Art, London and New York), Mohan Lal Nigam (former Director,Salar-Jung Museum) and Gaj Singh II (Maharaja of Jodhpur).
Says Dadha, “India is now ready for an auction house on the lines of the international majors. Our endeavour is to carve a special niche in the burgeoning Indian art market by providing an efficient, competitive and trustworthy service to customers across geographies.”
