The financial resource of the local body is entirely dependent on the paltry taxes levied in various services rendered by it. When we decry the functioning of the local body for bad roads, inadequate supply of water, lighting etc., we must understand that all these have to be attended to by the tax paid by us. While we expect the local bodies to provide all basic amenities, we tend to ignore their financial status. It is, therefore, essential that we should also share some portion of the expenditure incurred by the local bodies, if not by voluntary donations to the local bodies, at least by accepting the increase in property tax.
