VCD on maternal health titled “Thaimei”

The Kalanjiyam Trust, a Chennai-based NGO, working on community development issues and focussing primarily on education, health and skill building in rural communities, has released a video production titled ‘Thaimei” (Motherhood), presented by Dr. Kamala Selvaraj.

Kalanjiyam plans to distribute the VCD free of cost to NGOs, hospitals, community centres, women’s self-help groups and others in Tamil Nadu to raise awareness about maternal health care.

In Thaimei, Kalanjiyam has decided to focus on developing material on pregnancy care to educate as many women and families across Tamil Nadu. It presents in an easy-to-understand manner, some of the most important stages in a woman’s life, starting from when she attains menarche up to pregnancy. The stages of pregnancy are presented in three phases, the first three months, fourth to sixth month and the final trimester from 7 months up to delivery. In each of these phases, Dr. Selvaraj presents the critical steps to be taken, the medical tests to be done, the nutrition and care required for a healthy pregnancy and how the family needs to support the pregnant woman.

The Maithri Educational and Charitable Trust has supported this effort by sponsoring copies for distribution across the State.

Thaimei is presented in Tamil, in a culturally sensitive manner by Dr. Selvaraj and can be used to reach a large population of women and families.

Thaimei may be screened in the reception area of hospitals and clinics or during awareness programmes/camps conducted by NGOS, women’s self-help groups.

Those interested in receiving copies of the Thaimei VCD may e-mail Kalanjiyam at kalankiyam@gmail.com or contact the office at No.11, Avataar Apartmnets, 27, Balakrishnan Road, Valmikinagar, Thiruvanmiyur, ph: 24455568 or 43042414.
