Green wave
Greenpeace is celebrating December 8 as “Global Day of Action against Climate Change”, combining it with the first day of the India-Pakistan Cricket Test match.
More than 1,000 Bangaloreans concerned about the climate have volunteered to be with Greenpeace in Chinnaswamy Stadium doing a series of fun activities and calling on cricket lovers to act against climate change.
Greenpeace volunteers are planning to do a Mexican wave, hold up a corresponding climate change message placard for every conceivable activity in the field, pass on banners across the stadium, make human art formations, masks and more. Spectators are invited to join in.
Those watching the match at home can participate by replacing one regular incandescent light bulb with a CFL one and save 150 pounds of CO2 a year. Driving less, walking, cycling, car-pooling or taking public transport are other ways to pitch in. You will save one pound of CO2 for every mile you don’t drive. Turn off electronic devices like your TV, DVD player, stereo and computer when you’re not using them.
