Pearls of wisdom Sudha Rajkumar’s ‘In the light of fireflies.’
It was the death of her husband that had Sudha Rajkumar picking up the pen. Once she did, pearls of wisdom began pouring out. It is a collection of these philosophical musings that make Sudha’s ‘In the light of fireflies.’ Broken in
to three segments; ‘love,’ ‘growth’ and ‘celebration,’ the book contains rare insights on life and its meaning.
“I was devastated when my husband, Rajkumar, who was a pilot, died in an air show in Bangalore in 1997. Penning my thoughts became a cathartic exercise for me. The words were not pondered upon; they just flowed, like a river,” says Sudha, a zoology lecturer at S.N. College.
She adds: “I felt that it was I who had died and I started questioning life and its purpose through my pen.” And soon it became a spiritual journey.
At peace
“I soon realised the answers to “Why?” were being answered through my musings. I felt at peace after completing a piece,” says this woman who has penned down her thoughts from the years 2000 to 2005.
Anything, according to Sudha can trigger her thought process. “If at first it was on why death dealt such a cruel blow, it soon became curious perceptions on various aspects of life. For instance, once when I was travelling in a train I noticed a woman and her child.
“The child climbed up to the top berth and jumped down to her mother below, who caught her. The child laughed gleefully and repeated the exercise. Each time her mother caught her, it had the child laughing. That showed the absolute trust and faith the child had in her mother. The incident led to a piece in the book ‘Love, Trust and Innocence. ’”
It was Sudha’s son, Vivek, who persuaded her to compile her jottings into a book. Says Vivek, a third semester student at IIT, Chennai: “I was always a fan of my mother’s work. I showed it to my friends and found that if one liked the collection under love, which dealt with emotions, the other liked the pieces under growth which was more of a logical analysis on why things are the way they are.
“I discovered that there was something in her writings that caters to everyone’s needs; it depended on the current emotional and spiritual state they were in. A couple of my friends mentioned that they were glad that there were others who felt about the world and its workings as they did.”
‘In the light of fireflies’ will be hitting the bookstores shortly.
