Alluring ware at Lepakshi expo

Lepakshi has its stuff on display this time at S.R Nagar

Charm and magic Etikoppaku toys

Andhra Pradesh is a land blessed with a rich tradition and culture, which is a wonder to behold. It is a veritable world in itself and one, which represents a truly exotic mix of charm and magic. The State’s Handicrafts are reputed for their be auty, tradition, and artistry. Lepakshi has stores all year round in Hyderabad but the exhibition gives you the much-sought excuse to binge to your heart’s content, something you can not do all the time at the store next door!

The handloom and handicraft exhibition is organised by A.P Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. and nearly 100 people representing different states were invited to be a part of this fair and exhibit their crafts and products. The exhibition is organised more then a dozen times every year to provide a platform for the craftsmen to showcase their talent.

The expanse of S.R. Nagar Community hall proved to be a right place located in the heart of the city where a whopping array of handicrafts including softwood toys and dolls from Kondapally, Nirmal and Etikoppakku villages, hand-paintings in Nirmal, Kalahasti and Batik styles, puppets and lampshades in leather, brass artware, Bidriware, carvings in stone and wood, ceramic and terracotta pottery, crochet laces, cotton dhurries, silver filigree, Banjara tribal embroidery, silver jewellery are on display. With special attraction being the jute items like bags, mats, idols, leaf painting, Lucknow chikan work, south Indian pickles and masalas which stole the show.

Fine handlooms from places like Kashmir, Lucknow and Banaras were also on display for the buyer. It must also be said to the credit of the craftsmen that they have done a fine job of adjusting to new realities, technologies, ideas and attitudes bringing in its wake changes in their tastes, habits and lifestyles. The exhibition is on till December 16.
