Polishing a gem

Amita Motwani represents Hyderabad at this year’s Gladrags Mrs. India pageant

Winning streak? Amita Motwani

As we speak, she’s running in and out of a photo calls and being a part of grooming lessons and when she’s not doing that, she’s pouring over her laptop, trying to squeeze in a bit of work. That’s Amita Motwani for you. Mother, entrepreneur and now contestant at Gladrags Mrs. India 2008, she’s far away from home and yet juggling as much as she can.

Amita who is now settled in Hyderabad, is one of the 22 finalists at the pageant, the finals of which will take place later this week. She was crowned Miss Madhya Pradesh a couple of years ago but decided to steer away from modelling and focus on her studies instead. An M.A in Literature and an MBA soon followed and a couple of years after her baby was born, she started Empower Consultants, a placement consultancy.

Initially, her three-year-old daughter missed her, “but now she has settled down. My mother-in-law is taking care of her while I’m here. But I miss my daughter a lot.”

Amita adds that without help and support from her mother-in-law and husband Piyush she wouldn’t have been able to participate. “My mother in law came down from Indore to take care of my daughter while I’m away.”

Though Amita feels she stand a good chance of walking home with the crown, she doesn’t want to be ‘too modest,’ and says the experience has groomed and polished her. “This entire month has been enriching and like a thorough grooming school, so all of us walk away as winner. Its feels like I’m being polished,” she concludes.
