Wedding video
Sooraj Barjatiya portrayed the Marwari style weddings ostentatiously in Hindi films. Karan Johar reworked the Bollywood formula and made the glitzy Punjabi style weddings more appealing for NRI audiences. Now in Kollywood, Karu Palaniappan’s
“Pirivom Sandhipom” has a song featuring the wedding rituals of Nattukottai Chettiars. Picturised on Sneha and Cheran, the melodious song “Iru Vizhiyo…” is composed by Vidyasagar. Palatial houses, the Chettiar ‘Thali’ and jewellery and the cast dressed like the aachis and thathas lend it a rich look. ‘Abirami’ Ramanathan after seeing the song remarked: “I grew nostalgic as the song reminded me of my wedding which took place many years ago. I wore a mayil (peacock) pendant just as Cheran is wearing in the film. The director Karu Palaniappan’s eye for detail stands out.”
