Determined To make a mark

Bharathiraja’s ‘Bommalattam,’ is touted to be a narrative, which the master director has never told in his 30-year-long career in the film industry. That’s enough to raise expectations among his ardent fans.

“You have to wait till the film releases. It is going to be different and I mean it,” declares the veteran.

The flick is a bilingual (the Hindi version is called ‘Cinema’), with Nana Patekar playing the lead in both. Arjun essays an important role in the movie.

“The film crew comprises an excellent team of technicians, who have a carved a niche for themselves in the cine field. It’s a big plus for the movie,” he adds.

Bharathiraja had planned to do the film only in Hindi. Later, decided against it. “I am sure the movie caters to all audiences,” says the National Award winner.

Bharathiraja candidly admits he is disappointed that his son Manoj’s career didn’t take off well as an actor. But quickly adds the youngster is determined to make his mark as a director.

“My first love was also acting. But that didn’t work out. Same appears to be the case with my son. Manoj’s understanding of cinema is really good and I always believed that he will do well as a director. Manoj is working on a script and will make an announcement soon,” he reveals.

And what about Bharathiraja’s dream-venture ‘Kuttraparambarai’? “It’s a project which I have been thinking for long. I will be starting work soon. It is a big-budget film that also needs lot of time,” he wraps up.
